The application of these inclusion criteria has demonstrated that a large proportion of the study population presented with inadequate Zn intake levels for their ages: of the 804 participants, the study population decreased to 254 participants when intake levels were taken into account, a 68.41% reduction of the populations size, suggesting that correcting for possible distorting factors may be necessary for future studies, although this also entails reducing the sample size substantially
